Frequently Asked Questions

1. What makes your preschool different from others in the area?

Sol Academy is a relationship-centered early learning community in East Kendall where every child is known and valued. Our small class sizes allow teachers to personalize learning while building meaningful relationships with each child.

Through purposeful play, hands-on exploration, and developmentally appropriate experiences, children are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems independently, and develop confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

2. What ages do you accept?

Sol Academy serves children from 12 months through Kindergarten, with homeschool pods and hybrid options for school-age students.

Our programs include Scouts for toddlers ages 12 to 35 months, Explorers for children ages 3 to 4, Pioneers for VPK and Kindergarten, and Pathfinders for children ages 6 to 9. We also offer after-school care and summer camp.

3. How do you help children feel safe and comfortable at school?

We believe that connection is the foundation of learning. When children feel safe, known, and valued, they gain the confidence to participate, take thoughtful risks, and reach their full potential.

Our teachers build meaningful relationships with each child in a nurturing environment. Through intentional social-emotional learning and mindfulness practices, children learn to understand their emotions, communicate their needs, build healthy relationships, and approach challenges with confidence.

4. Do you offer VPK?

Yes. Sol Academy offers VPK through our Pioneers program, bringing together the wonder of childhood with the strong academic foundation children need for what comes next.

Through inquiry, play based discovery, small class sizes, meaningful projects, and individualized support, children strengthen literacy, mathematics, critical thinking, independence, and collaboration.

Our goal is to nurture confident thinkers and caring contributors who will change the world.

5. What curriculum or teaching approach do you use?

Our preschool program combines the research-based HighScope curriculum with a Reggio Emilia-inspired approach designed around how children naturally learn best: through hands-on experiences and active exploration.

Children are encouraged to make choices, investigate ideas, ask questions, and discover answers for themselves.

Through thoughtfully designed experiences and positive child and teacher interactions, they develop essential skills in language, literacy, mathematics, problem-solving, creativity, and social-emotional development.

6. Do you have a program for toddlers?

Yes. Our Scouts program welcomes toddlers beginning at 12 months, providing a nurturing environment where children are given the time and space to move, explore, communicate, and build independence within a responsive community.

Through meaningful play, sensory experiences, nature, music, movement, and nurturing relationships, children develop the confidence and security that become the foundation for everything that follows.

Our small class sizes allow teachers to provide personalized attention while supporting each child’s social, emotional, language, and physical development.

7. How many children are in each classroom?

Small class sizes are an essential part of our approach, allowing teachers to personalize learning and build meaningful relationships with each child.

In our small-group learning environment, every child feels seen and supported. Teachers can adapt lessons to different learning styles while children enjoy sharing ideas, helping each other, and learning through teamwork.

For specific class sizes and availability, we invite families to contact us.

8. Do you offer programs for homeschooling families?

Yes. Our Pathfinders program offers homeschool and hybrid learning options for children ages 6 to 9, providing a dynamic and engaging learning environment where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

With small class sizes and personalized attention, children develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and essential life skills through hands-on experiments, creative projects, teamwork, and group activities and field trips.

Our supportive community encourages confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

9. Do you offer after-school care and summer camp?

Yes. Our Aftercare Program provides a safe, caring, and engaging environment for children ages 18 months to 8 years, Monday through Friday, from 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Children enjoy outdoor play, arts and crafts, and enrichment activities such as yoga, dance, music, cooking, soccer, and musical theater.
