Meet Sara Lopez, Founder

Sara Lopez, Founder

Sara Lopez is the founder of Sol Academy, our relationship-centered early learning community in Kendall serving children from 12 months through kindergarten. With more than 26 years of teaching experience in local and international classrooms, Sara brings a deep appreciation for how children think, discover, and make sense of their world. Sara completed her degree in Elementary Education at Barry University after attending the University of Massachusetts in Boston. She comes from a family of educators, and that background shaped a career built on a specific conviction: that connection is the foundation of learning, and that children who feel safe, known, and valued gain the confidence to participate, take thoughtful risks, and reach their full potential. Sol Academy is the direct expression of that belief, from its small class sizes to its emphasis on purposeful play, hands-on exploration, and social-emotional development.

Teaching Across Local and International Classrooms

Over more than 26 years in the classroom, Sara has taught at several respected institutions, including Gulliver, Riviera, and La Scuola in Miami, as well as Liceo Boston in Bogotá, Colombia. That range matters in practice rather than just on paper. Working across different school cultures, curricula, and communities gave her a clear view of what varies between strong programs and what stays constant in all of them. It also reinforced her belief in nurturing the whole child, building meaningful connections, and creating environments where children feel inspired, empowered, and confident in their abilities. Those experiences became the blueprint for Sol Academy, where Sara applies what she observed across two decades of classrooms rather than adopting a single prescribed model.

Building Sol Academy Around Connection

Sol Academy began with the belief that connection is the bond that brings everything else in learning together. From that foundation, Sara built a different kind of learning experience, one that encourages children to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and discover answers for themselves. Rather than simply giving children information, our teachers immerse them in purposeful, engaging experiences that make academic concepts meaningful and relevant. Small class sizes make that possible, allowing teachers to personalize instruction while building genuine relationships with each child. Through building, imagining, investigating, and collaborating, children strengthen early math concepts, language and literacy, problem-solving, and creativity, developing confidence and independence along the way.

Supporting the Whole Child

Sara gives equal weight to children’s inner development. Through intentional social-emotional learning and mindfulness practices, children at Sol Academy learn to understand their emotions, communicate their needs, build healthy relationships, solve problems, and approach challenges with confidence. These are not add-ons layered onto the academic day. They run through it, because a child who can name a frustration and ask for help is a child who stays engaged when the work gets harder. That same philosophy shapes the full range of programs Sara oversees, from the toddler and preschool classrooms through Pre-K, homeschool pods, extended care, and summer camp.

Understanding the Search for the Right School

As a parent herself, Sara understands firsthand how comprehensive and often complex the decision-making process is when choosing a school for your child. That perspective informs how she meets families, how she answers their questions, and how she structures tours and admissions conversations at Sol Academy.
